Do you know who is visiting your website?
Do you know where they are referred from?
Do you know which browser they used to view your website and the screen size used?
You may know which pages are the most popular on your website, but do you know the order in which the pages are viewed?
VisitLog Extension - profiling visitors to your site
If you are a Joomla! website owner or developer the VisitLog extension was designed for you. With this extension installed you can confidently answer these questions. This extension (a component and associated module) are designed to flexibly capture information about your site’s visitors and to make it readily available to you.
The extension comprises a native Joomla! 1.5 MVC component and a module. The module performs the data collection and can be assigned to any or all pages on your Joomla! website. Depending on the options selected when configuring the module, the following information can be collected about a visit:
1. If the user is logged in, the username;
2. Date and time page was viewed;
3. For sites allowing user registration, username when a user logs into the site;
4. IP address;
5. Geolocation of the IP address – can be disabled or selectable at country, city and organisation level;
6. Browser and operating system of the user visiting the website;
7. The screen size used to view the web page – requires use of a cookie, only available if 2 or more pages are viewed;
8. The referring site.
9. In addition to the above standard functionality we have provided a custom function, which you can modify to collect specific data.
The component provides an administrative user the ability to view and analyse the results. Using the analysis screens you can drill down through the results, to the point where you can view the page sequence an individual visit.
This component gives a great insight to developers and site owners on how a site is being used. The data collected reflects both the legitimate use and will log attempts to hack the site through HTTP Requests. This latter feature has already provided considerable benefits to the site's using it - allowing steps to be taken to reinforce site security.
This is the first public release of the extension which based on user feedback is being steadily enhanced to provide additional recording and analysis features.
